OpenHome is an independent body dedicated to the design, implementation, and promotion of free and open standards for home networked devices.

As more networked devices are deployed in the home it is important for the services a device exposes to the network to allow

  • control of the device with a networked control point,
  • cooperation with other devices from other vendors
  • use of the device in ways the manufacturer may not have envisaged when the device was designed

OpenHome's first area of work is the OpenHome Audio Visual (AV) standard.
